No license available after starting Organice Explorer

Last modified on: 22 January 2020

Description problem

Starting Organice brings up the message that you need to buy a license.  But according the number of licenses bought and the licenses in use, shown in OMS there should be no problem. A license should be available!

Solution:

1. The client is not linked to the central OMS site containing the license

The link is configured in the Organice.Config file (location see below).

In the file look for 'OrganiceManagementSiteURL', and configure the URL to the OMS site.

Example: <OrganiceManagementSiteURL>http://dev-ps-sps02.dev.cdc.local/sites/OMS</OrganiceManagementSiteURL>

There are two config files that can be adjusted. If the issue occurs only for an existing specific user, refer to the "User specific settings". If a new user on the same machine also experiences the issue, refer to both configuration files below.

All users:

OS
Description
Environment variable
Vista
Win7
Win8
Win10
The common application data directory that serves as a common repository for application-specific data that is used by all users. In Windows Vista and Windows 7,8 and 10 this directory can be found at the following location:
C:\ProgramData\Cadac Group\Organice 2010

The base location can also be found through the environment variable:
%AllUsersProfile%
%AllUsersProfile%
XP
In Windows XP the same environment variable  %AllUsersProfile% can be used, but it actually points to a different location:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Cadac Group\Organice 2010
%AllUsersProfile%

User specific setting:

OS
Description
Environment variable
Vista
Win7
Win8
Win10
The logged on user's local profile. The exact location depends on the currently logged on user and can be found under the following path in Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8 and 10.

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Cadac Group\Organice 2010
Where the USERNAME segment should be substituted with the username of the logged on user. One can also use the environment variable:
%LocalAppData%
, as in %LocalAppData%\Cadac Group\Organice 2010, which will also expand to the full path for the currently logged on user.
%LocalAppData%
XP
In Windows XP the Organice.config file can be found under the following path.
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Cadac Group\Organice 2010

The USERNAME segment must be replaced with the username of the logged on user.
%UserProfile%

2. It is possible to link individual users to a license. This setting prevents new users to automatically get a license.

In the OMS site check the list "/sites/OMS/Lists/OrganiceLicensingProducts/AllItems.aspx".  Set in the list the property "Allow Automatic Assignments"  to  "Yes". If not, edit the item and check the box for "Allow Automatic Assignments".
