From tailor-made to Configure to Order
What is Configure to Order? Configure to Order (CTO) means ' configure on demand'. As opposed to the more traditional Engineer to Order (ETO), where you re-engineer each order, Configure to Order involves putting together and assembling your orders from existing building blocks that can be delivered from stock, or in other words: modular assembly of products.
Many companies in manufacturing still operate according to Engineer to Order (ETO), where each product, part or machine is specified, developed, and produced to order. What does this mean in practice? Making a proposal takes a very long time, development costs a lot of money every time, and agreed delivery times are rarely met. While the demand for more complex customisation is increasing, your customers want to receive proposals faster and the cost price is under pressure more than ever. This can be done more efficiently and smarter. But how? A CTO approach could be the solution.
The right knowledge and resources for your CTO process
At Cadac, we have everything you need to optimise your CTO process. Complement your CTO software with our services, training and experts.
Modular composition of assignments
With a Configure to Order (CTO) approach, you assemble each order from existing blocks. By configuring your order in a product configurator, instead of engineering, almost no engineer is involved. Quotations are produced faster than ever and the promised delivery time is no longer a problem.
Configure to Order absolutely does not mean that you are limited in your offer. By standardising (legolising) all dimensions and building blocks, you have enormous variation possibilities. By varying standardised building blocks such as hardware, software, electronics but also operational building blocks such as production systems and resources, customers still get a customer-specific solution, but the path towards it is standardised.
Optimise quotations, shorten lead times and avoid wasted time
To remain competitive in the manufacturing industry, it is essential to evolve with digitalisation. Yet implementing CTO processes proves to be a big step for many machine factories.
Many believe that a CTO process is only useful for large companies, producing large quantities of products. This is incorrect. SMEs often struggle with the same order configuration challenges. They too can benefit from modularisation, which allows infinite amounts of customer-specific product assemblies to be built.
Others are convinced that CTO only improves the work process of engineers. On the contrary, CTO touches all disciplines within a project. Wondering what CTO can do for your company?
