In the Netherlands, leaders see both challenges and opportunities in 2025. The three biggest challenges are attracting, training, and retaining talent, technological advancements, including AI, and cost control. Nearly half of leaders (48%) say that the lack of skilled personnel is hampering growth, which is well below the global average of 58%.

Sentiment around AI is becoming more realistic

In the Netherlands, sentiment around AI is mixed. 65% of business leaders believe AI will improve their industry, but 47% worry that AI could destabilise the industry. There is also a growing emphasis on hiring staff with AI skills, underscoring the increasing role of AI in the future.

In conclusion, while there is a lot of confidence in the benefits of AI, such as improving creativity and productivity in the industry, concerns remain about the destabilising effects that AI can have. Companies in the Netherlands continue to invest in AI, but with a certain caution and attention to the potential risks associated with the technology.

Global situation has become more uncertain

The geopolitical situation in the Netherlands is perceived as increasingly uncertain. According to the report, 61% of business leaders indicate that the global situation is more uncertain now than it was three years ago. This uncertainty affects the willingness of companies to prepare for unexpected obstacles; Only 51% feel well prepared, a striking decrease from 77% in 2024. Geopolitical tensions mean that 41% of companies view their supply chain as vulnerable, prompting them to diversify their supply chains.

Sustainability is on the rise

94% of leaders say their organisation is taking steps to become more sustainable. 33% of Dutch respondents are using AI to work more sustainably, compared to 38% in EMEA and 39% globally.
