Blog | Hysopt BIM Syncer: the future of HVAC Engineering through seamless integration with BIM

20 november 2023

To this day, there is little to no digital interaction between HVAC engineers and BIM modellers. While the former focuses on hydraulic calculations, the latter deals with the spatial whole. This leads to a number of problems that affect the quality, cost and duration of the design process. The Hysopt BIM Syncer offers a solution to these problems through constant validation and synchronisation, while also streamlining the design process.

P&ID and BIM: current issues

One of the biggest problems due to the current way of working, is high failure costs. Due to the lack of a direct digital connection, the P&ID and the BIM model are almost never an exact match. When the system is then eventually built to the less correct model, the costs run high to still correct this. On top of that, attempts to prevent these kinds of errors are very time-consuming. To check whether the P&ID and the BIM model match, someone literally has to check everything with one finger on both models. So it is not entirely incomprehensible that this also makes the error rate much higher.

Development of the Hysopt BIM Syncer

In order to best respond to market demands, Hysopt set up a user feedback panel before the start of our developments. This sounding board of HVAC professionals was able to express their needs and feedback over several sessions, which they listened to attentively. The most frequent comment was that existing BIM plug-ins always ask to develop a detailed BIM model first, while an HVAC engineer prefers to do all the calculations first. So if you provide calculation functionality in a BIM environment, you are actually working against the HVAC engineer somewhat.
Unlike existing BIM plug-ins, the Hysopt BIM Syncer works with an integration of Hysopt's own cloud-based calculation software through an interactive split-screen. In this way, both the BIM modeller and the HVAC engineer can work in their own familiar environment, simultaneously exchanging data and synchronising data. Together, they can quickly and efficiently create a system that is both correctly drawn and correctly calculated.
