Placing Spaces in linked model not working - Revit

Last modified on: 28 April 2020

Problem:
When a file is linked into another project an Spaces need to be placed,  the Spaces all give the "Space is not in a properly enclosed region" message and nothing is marked during placement.

Solution:
When a Revit model is linked, the properties for that linked file should be modified to activate 'Room bounding' capabilities of that linked file.

This can be done:

  • Select the linked file
Make sure linked files can be selected by enabling 'linked model selection' on the statusbar (bottomright)
  • Click 'Edit Type'
  • Activate checkbox for 'Room bounding'
  • Click [ OK ] to close editing.

Now the linked files Room information can be used to created Spaces.
