Problem:
When opening a drawing or when placing the first dimension an exclamation mark is presented next to the dimension text.
Cause:
The exclamation mark is a feature in AutoCAD (LT) since the 2013 version. It is part of the 'Annotation Monitor'.
This 'Annotation monitor' monitor all annotations (leaders, multileaders and dimensions) to check if there is anything 'out of the ordinary'
When something about the annotation is off the exclamation mark is presented.
Solution:
Mostly this is an effect of dimension not being associative to the object they dimension. So if the value length changes the dimension will not change accordingly.
This associativity is part of the AutoCAD Options and can be modified by checking the checkbox for 'Make new dimensions associative' in the Associative Dimensioning panel on the 'User Preferences' Tab.
In the Statusbar (bottom right) there is a button for the Annotation monitor available:
When the button is presented blue, the annotation monitor is active and will show the exclamation marks
When the button is presented grey, the annotation monitor is inactive and will not show the exclamation marks.
