Blog | Cadac follows Autodesk, Netflix and Spotify with Named Use licences
This means that users can only use our software if they log in with a personal username and password. With any device, at any time, anywhere; provided the internet is available. Just like Autodesk's software, for example, just like streaming services like Netflix and Spotify.

New licensing system as an essential part of digitisation
In January, we have already seen a number of customers switch over. Of course, we are taking our time with the transition, continuity is of great importance to you and us, so the software will continue to work as usual. But we do want to speed things up, because the switch to Named Use is an essential part of digitalisation. And has many advantages, both for our customers and for Cadac.
The advantages of Named Use licences
Using Named Use licences has many advantages, both for our customers and for Cadac. The two main benefits are:
- Transparancy
- Security
Transparancy
Customers receive an exact and complete picture of the number of users and the frequency with which the software is used via a portal. Anonymous licence keys thereby give way to real-life users.
Important to monitor the cost of licences and adjust immediately where necessary. After all, all data is stored in the cloud and is retrievable, naturally within the rules of AVG and privacy. Of course, this transparency is also important for Cadac. In the old system, licences were sometimes used twice. With the Named Use system, that is a thing of the past.
Software may be almost as common as running water and electricity; but of course it is not free. Incidentally, the message "key in use" or "occupied" is then also a thing of the past, of course. The customer always has the right number of licences, neither too many nor too few.
Security
And then there is the issue of security. Logging in can only be done with strong authentication. It makes no sense to share keys and passwords to prevent data from falling into the wrong hands. A reassuring thought for Cadac too.
User requirements and staying ahead of the game
More turnover is not the drive for Cadac. The available data enable us to react faster to possible failures, improve software and take more account of users' wishes. We always want to improve, to stay ahead of our competitors. That is our motivation.
Switching to a Named Use licensing system from January onwards
Our new, own Named Use system is ready after several months of building and testing. We started the rollout in January. Switching is easy and takes little time. Eventually, every customer will have insight into all Cadac programmes via the portal. User-friendly, clear, transparent and with tools to make changes quickly.
How the portal works
In the portal, user names and e-mail addresses can easily be entered (or deleted). The customer sits behind the dashboard and determines which software the employee has access to.
Naturally, Cadac Support, our helpdesk, is available to assist and answer questions. Existing contracts are respected and, of course, new contracts are negotiable.
Next step to Enabling Digital
So why wait? In the course of this year, we expect the vast majority of our customers to use Named Use. They set the pace themselves, but we like to make metres. That is why we are sending them all a message and this blog. With which we take another step in digitalisation.
