What to do with message "Saving is not allowed while a message box is displayed" in Revit?

Problem:

When trying to synchronize or save the "Central file" you receive the error message:
"Saving is not allowed while a message box is displayed. Close or cancel the message and then save again."


Solution:

This error message usually occurs as a result of a dialog-screen conflict between the Worksharing Monitor and Revit.

If the Worksharing Monitor is currently active, close this application and make sure the WorksharingMonitor.exe process is not active within Windows Task Manager.

After closing the Worksharing Monitor try to save the file locally or to synchronize with the Central Model.

If the problem still exists with the inactive Worksharing Monitor, perform the following steps:

  • Open a second session of Revit.
  • Under Options> Username: Provide a different username.
  • Create a new "local file" from the "Central File" by browsing, within Revit, to the "Central File" location and opening the file with the 'Create New Local' option active.
  • Synchronize the new "local file" with the "Central File" under Collaborate > Synchronize with Central.
  • After synchronizing is finished, close the 'local file' and select the 'Relinquish all elements' option.
  • Close the second Revit session.
  • From the original file, again try to save or synchronize the 'local file' with the "Central File".


Revit should, without the error message, save the model after the 'other user' has synced with the "Central File".
