Round table of the Dutch government | Asset Lifecycle Management

4. März 2025

A few months ago, Cadac Group was a guest at FM Haaglanden for a round table on Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM) and the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the life cycle of buildings and infrastructure. Representatives of various central government bodies came together to discuss what information should be available during the different phases of the life cycle in order to carry out tasks more efficiently and sustainably. Under the leadership of Bas Wolse, the participants started working on specific themes in the field of Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM).

In particular, the theme of the role of Building Information Modeling (BIM) led to a lot of discussion and valuable insights. The Central Government Real Estate Agency (RVB) is working on the transition from 2D drawings to 3D BIM models for the (re)development of real estate, such as the Binnenhof and the Haagse Veste. At Facility Management Haaglanden (FM Haaglanden), several locations have already been BIM "mified", including Koningskade 4, and more locations will follow. The National Cleaning Organization (RSO) is interested in the 3D BIM models of the RVB and FMH to calculate the cleaning costs based on the square meters of carpet, the number of toilets per floor and the window area per floor.

More efficient management of buildings with BIM for Facility Management

Imagine a future where buildings are managed seamlessly and efficiently. The biggest challenge with FM BIM is the validation and transfer of BIM information between the various participants. By using the Information Delivery Specification (ILS) according to ISO 19650, governments and contractors can exchange and control BIM information in an unambiguous way. This creates a common data environment (CDE) in which information is reliable and accessible.

Continuity in information transfer with FM BIM

FM BIM ensures continuity of information, with data being collected during the construction phase and remaining up-to-date throughout the use phase. This dynamic model prevents errors and provides up-to-date information for everyone involved and ensures that everyone involved always has the most up-to-date information. Imagine how this improves collaboration between teams and increases efficiency.

FM BIM facilitates collaboration between different teams by providing access to accurate and reliable data and by linking data sources.

FM BIM can serve as the basis for a Digital Twin, which continuously receives updates from maintenance systems. This provides an up-to-date overview of the building status and enables unambiguous management. Think of a future where your building management runs smoothly thanks to the power of FM BIM. An application of a Digital Twin for governments is the Facilitor-Connect-BIM-FM.

FM BIM explained in four unique podcasts

FM BIM offers unprecedented opportunities for building managers by improving operational efficiency, saving costs and making buildings more sustainable. Early involvement of Facility Managers in the FM BIM process is essential for leveraging these benefits. Cadac will soon be recording four unique podcasts, describing the power of FM BIM in various governments and companies. Now is the time to invest in FM BIM. Don't miss this opportunity and follow the Cadac podcasts about FM BIM.
