Blog | What's new in Autodesk Inventor Professional 2024
The latest version of Inventor, Inventor Professional 2024, has several new features and enhancements aimed at enhancing your design experience. Along with this, the importance of documentation in conveying your designs to production has also been acknowledged. Therefore, Inventor 2024 includes enhancements for both 3D annotations and 2D drawings. Additionally, the performance has been significantly improved to cater to those working on large, intricate designs.
This article provides a sneak peek into some of the significant enhancements you can expect from Inventor 2024, whereas the Inventor online help guide lists all the improvements in detail.
General improvements Inventor Professional
Previously, Inventor Studio was restricted to rendering graphics at a maximum output of 4096 x 4096 pixels. However, this restriction has been lifted, and Inventor Studio can now render graphics up to 16K x 16K resolution, depending on your graphics card's capabilities.
The workflow for utilizing custom HDR and EXR images with IBL exposure styles has been significantly improved and is now supported for both CPU and GPU ray tracing.
GPU ray tracing now enables rendering with IBL backgrounds.
You can now set "Perspective with ortho faces" as the default rendering setting in both Document Settings and Application Options.
iLogic Vault Workflow improvements
With Inventor Professional 2024, working with Vault has never been easier. New features added to iLogic allow Inventor to check out, retrieve files, search Vault and much more as part of your automations. Vault code snippets added to the editor make it easy to get started quickly.
New finishing feature Autodesk Inventor Professional 2024
The latest finishing feature allows you to determine the physical attributes and production procedures for your parts and assembly models. It furnishes comprehensive information if you use material coatings, surface textures, paint color, or heat treatments.
To preserve variable procedures for your 3D model, the finishing function is supported by model states.
Improvements in part modelling Inventor 2024
Parameter window improvements
The parameters window in Inventor 2024 offers improved export functionality for text and boolean parameters in the user parameters section. This feature provides easy access to parameters in other areas, such as iProperties where they can be included as part of a live description or displayed in the custom iProperties tab.
Mark feature
Introduced in Inventor 2023, the Marker feature enables users to laser or highlight their 3D models. This feature has been improved in Autodesk Inventor Professional 2024 by adding a behavior section to the properties panel. In addition to etching in three different directions, two new marking methods have been added.
The Project method applies marking to all surfaces in its path, even if they are not coplanar. Furthermore, the ability to wrap a marker has been included, allowing it to wrap around corners or be applied to curved geometry such as axes or cylinders.
Optimised bounding box assembly
You can derive a solid body as an oriented minimum bounding box. A new "Oriented minimum bounding box" option has been added to the Options tab of the Derived Part, Derive Assembly and Make Part dialogs. The option is checked by default. Uncheck it to derive a body as an orthogonal bounding box.
3D annotations improvements Autodesk Inventor Professional 2024
Model-based definition
Inventor Professional 2024 includes several new features that enhance the Model-based Definition (MBD) capabilities. One of the significant updates is that envelope requirements can now be specified for linear dimensions. Additionally, annotation scales can now go up to 1:5, and 'All over' has been added to the annotation options for profiling flat surfaces.
In the drawing environment, extracting 3D annotations from parts in an assembly file is now possible, making it easier to switch to the 3D annotations tab and select the source. These updates streamline the MBD process and provide more flexibility when working with 3D annotations.
Welding symbol
Inventor 2024 has introduced a new feature in the annotation ribbon, which includes a weld symbol option for adding welding data to designs. The dialog box for this feature is almost identical to the drawing environment, providing users with extensive control over their weld symbols. The created annotations can be used in the drawing environment, and weld symbols can be generated in both regular compositions and multi-body part files. Additionally, welding data can be exported to other systems and viewers using either QIF or STEP 242, making it easier to share and collaborate on designs.
Drawing improvements
Revision clouds
Revision clouds are a crucial Inventor object, and they are no longer available in the SDK. These clouds can be added to drawing sheets or views, and their placement, orientation, and deletion can be easily managed. With the Styles Editor, formatting can be controlled and customized to suit the user's needs.
Since revision clouds are sketch-based, they can be edited in their cloud state or from within the sketch. This feature provides more flexibility and convenience for users, allowing them to modify and adjust their designs as necessary.
Edge symbol
Autodesk Inventor Professional 2024 has added a new feature that allows users to define an Edge symbol based on the ISO 13715:2019 standard. The Edge symbol command is now available in the Symbols panel of the Annotate tab, as well as the drawing style and standard editor. This feature provides users with the ability to create and customize edge symbols according to the latest industry standards, ensuring that their designs are accurate and comply with the requirements of the ISO 13715:2019 standard.
Improvements to pipes and tubes Inventor Professional
From this release, you can apply custom angled bends. In previous versions of Inventor, it was only possible to add 45- or 90-degree bends to rigid pipelines.
