The new Autodesk Construction Cloud opens up a new world of opportunities for all AEC Collection users, partly because Autodesk Docs has also been added to this expanded collection. But the Autodesk Construction Cloud offers even more opportunity to optimise the design process. In this article, Sales Manager, Dirk van Loenen, discusses the features of Autodesk Collaborate (Pro).

We live in an ever-changing world, in which much is designed and built and an increasing amount is possible digitally. Sharing information is important to ensure one’s construction projects are successful, because where BIM is concerned everything depends on the ‘i’ (for information). A crucial factor is that the project information is transparent to all the parties involved (chain partners) and that (in each discipline) cooperation is efficient, decisions are made effectively and qualitative results are achieved. In this blog, I focus on the three options available in the design process for project participants.

Autodesk Docs, which all AEC Collection users now automatically have access to, provides a basis for easily sharing project information with each other. Furthermore, one can connect, when cooperating as a subcontractor or hired designer, for example, to the Autodesk Construction Cloud and existing BIM 360 environments of the client, based on the principle of 'Bring Your Own Subscription' (BYOS). Last week, my colleague, Ben Spreen, went into more detail in his blog on the possibilities offered by Autodesk Docs.

2D and 3D projects come to life

Of course, we also have a solution for project participants who do not have AEC Collection or who want to share more (design) information with each other and work together more intensively. Where Autodesk Docs offers the basics, BIM Collaborate and BIM Collaborate Pro offer many additional features. Suitable for both 2D and 3D models and for large and small projects.

Please note that BIM Collaborate and BIM Collaborate Pro users can use the rights referred to above to access projects on the Autodesk Construction Cloud or BIM 360 platform as long as they have been granted these rights by the contract manager or account administrator and have been invited to a project.

The added value of Autodesk BIM Collaborate

Autodesk BIM Collaborate lets project stakeholders, such as information managers, project managers, designers, and clients, align and implement design ideas and buildability by managing the entire workflow for collaboration and coordination during the design process.

Possible design conflicts can be identified and costly design errors and project delays can be avoided by using the special model coordination functionality. The design model is fully automatically checked for conflicts after uploading without the designer having to change the model. These conflicts can be easily assigned, as an “issue”, to a project stakeholder, who is then given the task of resolving them. The correction process can be followed and verified in the environment.

BIM Collaborate Pro is required if specific project stakeholders require working with Revit Cloud Worksharing, Autodesk Civil 3D or Plant 3D.

The added value of Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro

BIM Collaborate Pro offers additional features to Revit, Civil 3D and Plant 3D designers.

  • Revit Cloud Worksharing enables Revit users to collaborate on a design with multiple project stakeholders from any location.
  • It allows Civil 3D users to design civil engineering infrastructure projects, using dynamic Civil 3D files, data shortcuts and Xrefs, with multiple project stakeholders and from any location.
  • Plant 3D users are enabled to share files securely between project stakeholders, with permissions managed and changes visualised so that project stakeholders can see the current project status.

Cooperating on different projects

The solutions referred to are all based on the principle of 'Bring Your Own Subscription' (BYOS), which makes it easy for subcontractors and/or hired designers to also connect to projects on the Autodesk Construction Cloud and existing BIM 360 environments.

Use of (ISO) standards and other (project) information

Of course, the design process involves much more than just the use of a central project environment. These include the BIM standard (ISO 19650), IFC, project requirements (SE, Relatics), access to GIS and asset management information, compliance with local laws, regulations and guidelines, and
Cloud data security (ISO 27001/27017/27018). Of course, we understand this and can provide you with additional information and possibilities.
