How to disable Revit Add-ins?

Last modified on: 29. April 2020

Why?

It can happen that in some cases you should test Revit without any extra add-ins loaded to see if one of the add-ins is causing problems. For instance as Revit is unable to start.

How to disable Revit Add-ins?

To do so follow these steps:

  • Close the Revit session.
  • Open Windows Explorer
  • Browse to the following folder:  C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\[Version].
  • Move the add-ins to another location.
Note!: renaming the files wont make a difference. The have to be physically removed from the add-ins folder
  • Restart Revit to see if Revit starts, The Add-ins should no longer be available.

When testing is finished, you can place the add-ins back to their original location. For testing reasons this may be done one-by-one.

There are other possible location where add-ins can bestored:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins.  ( mostly add-ins that are not versiondependent)

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit [Version]\AddIns. (This location is normally used for internal add-ins, but some older add-ins may still be placed here)

Note:

For the older Revit versions:

When working with Cloudmodels that are saved with the Collaboration for Revit (C4R) service, make sure the Collaboration for Revit components remain placed in the Add-ins folder:

  • Autodesk.Collaborate.addin
  • Communicator.addin
  • ExportViewSelectorApp.addin
  • Communicator (Folder)
  • ExportViewSelectorAddin (Folder)
