Create, manage and share
An important part of engineering document management and control is managing and sharing design information. CAD and Design Engineers not only need proper tools to create and manage drawings and designs, but design information should also be easily shared with internal disciplines and external partners.
Drawing Management
Microsoft SharePoint is a powerful platform for managing and sharing information, but SharePoint out-of-the-box does not offer functionality for CAD drawing management. There are many different CAD applications, like CAD applications for 2D drawing and 3D modeling, and CAD applications for specific design purposes, like architectural, mechanical or electrical designing. They all have their own proprietary file formats and structures, which makes CAD drawing management and CAD integration a complex issue.
CAD integration
Cadac Organice therefore offers two strategic choices. For organizations with basic CAD needs, Cadac Organice offers integration between SharePoint and AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bricscad and Revit. Users are able to manage CAD drawings in SharePoint, including reference files (XREFs) and title block linking. Released drawings can easily be shared in SharePoint with other users through workflows and transmittals.
Publish from PDM to SharePoint
Organizations that intensively use one or more (complex) CAD applications are recommended to manage CAD drawings within the CAD application or related PDM system. These systems offer the best environment for Engineers to create and manage design information. To share this information with other users, SharePoint is more suitable. Cadac Organice offers functionality to publish design information from Autodesk Vault (PDM) and Inventor (CAD) to SharePoint. In addition, we see a trend that also other suppliers of CAD and PDM systems provide the ability to publish to SharePoint. From SharePoint Cadac Organice offers the tools to easily share CAD and design information with other internal disciplines and external partners through workflows and transmittals.
