Maintaining as-built documents with Cadac Organice and SharePoint

6/15/2010

Cadac Organice, a SharePoint based engineering document management solution developed by Cadac Organice BV, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, helps companies in the Oil & Gas and other engineering industries to maintain their as-built documents and avoid safety issues.

In a recent article published by ProPublica and co-published with the Washington Post, Abrahm Lustgarten reports about three confidential BP documents that he got access to in which he found evidence that BP has not been properly maintaining as-built design documents (http://www.npr.org/templates/player/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=127561853&m=127741488). As-built documents are final engineering documents and drawings reflecting the as-built status of plants, installations and equipment. In the Oil & Gas and other engineering industries, as-built documents and drawings are considered to be crucial to make sure that plants, installations and equipment function properly and for safety procedures.

Cadac Organice is an engineering document management solution and is entirely based on SharePoint, Microsoft’s leading platform for Enterprise Content Management and Project Collaboration. Cadac Organice leverages SharePoint as a platform for sharing and exchanging documents and information and enhances SharePoint with functionality to manage typical engineering documents like CAD drawings and designs. Cadac Organice is especially suitable for project driven engineering industries such as: Oil & Gas, and offers these industries the right tools to manage and maintain their documents, including as-built design documents.

With Cadac Organice all project members, including CAD Engineers, workers and contractors, have instantly access to all project documents. Based on the as-built situation, workers can easily provide feedback to CAD Engineers about the as-built status using redlining functionality, so CAD Engineers can easily update their design documents reflecting the as-built situation. As a result of this process, design documents are up-to-date and all project members are able to immediately retrieve the as-built documentation in case of any issue or safety incident.

Stork Industry Services in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, is using Cadac Organice and SharePoint to manage the project and as-built documents of the plants and installations from Bio MCN, a consortium responsible for the production and delivery of environmental friendly bio-methanol. During and after a project, Stork Industry Services updates the as-built design documents and publishes them to a shared SharePoint environment. From this environment, Bio MCN is able to access the as-built design documents 24/7 in line with their safety rules and regulations.
